Weare Giffard Park is a community-run space open to all, featuring a children's play area with swings, spring rockers, a large multi-play structure with a slide, a balance beam, and a full-sized basketball court with a hoop. Seasonal football goals are available during autumn, winter, and spring, which are replaced by a cricket pitch in the summer.
The Park sits between The Orchard by the River Torridge and Weare Woods, with a stream on the opposite side, providing a scenic setting. During summer, a large marquee is installed, available for hire, along with a gas BBQ and benches for gatherings and events.
Summer also brings a series of enjoyable cricket matches, including games against visiting teams, local clubs, and the communityβs own Battle of the Bridges match. These events, advertised through local posters and the Park's Facebook page, attract a lively crowd who enjoy an afternoon of cricket along with a bar and BBQ.
The Park is maintained by a dedicated committee of local residents, who oversee its upkeep, organise events, secure funding, and manage its general operations. Funding comes from event proceeds, local grants, and various contributions. We welcome volunteers to assist with maintenance, especially during our scheduled upkeep days in spring and autumn.
