• The Weare Giffard Parish Council is the lowest tier of local government, dedicated to representing the community and enhancing the quality of life within the parish. Councillors often serve as the first point of contact for villagers with ideas or concerns. While the council has limited delegated authority, it makes decisions that impact the community and uses its influence to negotiate with higher authorities when needed.

Approximately 75% of the council’s funding is traditionally reinvested into the community through grants or the maintenance of community assets and open spaces. Previously, the grant process was only open once a year and primarily supported larger organisations within the village. However, to make the process more flexible and inclusive, councillors have revised the grant policy. From 2024, applications can be submitted at any time.

The council actively encourages and welcomes applications from smaller groups within the village, whether already established or in the planning stages. While there are certain restrictions on what the council can fund, councillors aim to make the process more accessible and less formal, making it easier for anyone to seek financial support for village activities.

If you are considering applying for council funding, councillors are available for an informal chat to guide you through the process.

  • Your council consists of seven elected or co-opted councillors, each serving a term of four years.

    The councillors are:

    Andrew Hedden- O’Hara – Chair

    Kevin Jeram – Vice Chair

    Elizabeth Waldron

    Roy Parsons

    Richard Andrews

    Ross Hedden

    Karen Milton

Council meetings are held quarterly at Weare Giffard Village Hall, with additional ad-hoc meetings convened as necessary.

Alongside the council members, the following individuals regularly attend meetings:

    David Branston – Parish Clerk
